3D bathroom tiles: the effect of volume and pattern dynamics

Even in ancient Rome, bathing areas were lovingly decorated with paintings of the seabed or rocks. Manufacturers of ceramic tiles with a three-dimensional image effect respond to the human need to immerse themselves in another world. 3D bathroom tiles amaze with their realism and allow you to create incredible scenes in interior design.

Amazing depth of space

3D is a fashionable trend in interior design

Features of using 3D tiles in the bathroom

Today, the bathroom is expanding its functionality; in it you can not only perform water procedures, but also get emotional release, plunging into your dreams or creative plans. 3D tiles for the bathroom are an option for creative and free people. Drawings on ceramic tiles present a three-dimensional and dynamic picture.

The three-dimensional image may include:

  • landscapes;
  • still lifes;
  • portrait drawings;
  • graphic images;
  • abstract variations.

The choice depends on the size of the room. 3D tiles for the bathroom can visually expand the boundaries of the room, and can also hide extra square meters. Bright, contrasting and large images make the room feel intimate and closed. Landscapes with a marine theme let in freshness and a light breeze, expanding the space.

The 3D image can be placed:

  1. on the walls;
  2. on the floor.

Having taken a step towards innovative technologies, the main thing is not to overdo it. If all the walls in the bathroom have a 3D effect, after a certain time such an interior may become boring. A small area with an unusual design is enough to make the bathroom unique.

[note] Considering that there are a lot of utilities in the bathroom, for a 3D effect, choose a free area.[/note]

Sea depths on the floor and wall

The feeling that there is real greenery with drops of dew on the floor or three-dimensional geometric shapes is indescribable. However, decorating with such tiles should fit into the overall concept of the room, and most importantly, the main color scheme. The seabed in the general oriental style is ridiculous to say the least.

It is also better to leave experiments with contrasts. For example, if the general background is in flashy tones of red and yellow, then it is better to choose a calm pastel halftone for the landscape on the wall.

[note]Giving preference to 3D tiles for the bathroom, refuse additional decorative elements. [/note]

A marine theme in a bathroom is a fairly popular design solution, but it is not suitable for those who are used to surprising guests. But a simple and non-binding pattern changes when light is refracted and becomes fascinating. This season, complex geometric designs in three-dimensional design are in fashion. Different viewing angles make unusual accents from familiar details.

Light textured 3D effect

Features of manufacturing and operation

The 3D effect is successfully embodied on tiles:

  • ceramic;
  • plastic;
  • glass.

In this case, the tile can be not only ordinary opaque, but also more interesting in design:

  1. Transparent - backlighting is usually used for such tiles.
  2. Translucent - has a matte surface.

[note] You should not highlight translucent tiles; the effect of a living mechanism that reacts sharply to touch will be lost. [/note]

Amazing and relaxing interior

The process of manufacturing products with a 3D effect is also interesting. Thanks to microlens technology, the carbon film is connected to the tile. The first layer is the base layer, a shock-absorbing layer is applied to it, then a reflective layer is used and a plastic lens itself is used, which creates three-dimensionality.

The resulting 3D bathroom tiles are in no way inferior to conventional ceramic ones in their technical characteristics. Manufacturers do not limit the service life to 10 years.

It is also completely hygienic and durable. Some 3D bathroom tile collections have a sound-absorbing effect.

Such tiles are only afraid of mechanical influences (cutting and scratching are prohibited) and treatment with abrasive agents.

Preparatory work and installation features

Installation of 3D tiles includes several stages:

  • surface preparation;
  • direct installation;
  • grouting joints.

The quality of the surface will be reflected in the quality of the pattern, so the surface of the floor or wall must be perfectly flat, dry and clean before starting work.

[note] Before laying the tiles on the floor, a self-leveling mixture is used, which will eliminate even minimal differences in height. [/note]

A perfectly flat surface – the success of a three-dimensional pattern

The tiles are laid according to the drawing; usually the back surface is marked for convenience. For tiles with a 3D effect, a special two-component polyurethane-based adhesive is used.

When the drawing is ready, the seams are filled with transparent silicone grout.

Installing tiles yourself

You can install the tiles yourself. If lighting is planned, then all electrical work is carried out first, and then installation begins.

To do this you need:

  • tiles in 3D technology;
  • guides made of plexiglass or polycarbonate;
  • special glue;
  • grout.

An approximate sequence of the process looks like this:

  1. When the electrical circuit is installed, the guides are mounted.
  2. The guides are attached using self-tapping screws, and the alignment at both ends of the guide is checked with a level.
  3. The tiles are attached to the guides using glue; the gap between the tiles should not exceed 4 mm.

[note] Make sure that the pattern does not go to the side; to do this, decide on the size of the gaps between the tiles and control their size with special crosses. [/note]

  1. Rub the seams with a rubber spatula, carefully so as not to damage the surface of the tile.
  2. Remains of sealant are removed with a wet cloth. So, the 3D image is ready.

Now you know how to design a bathroom in 3D and install the tiles yourself, without spending money on builders’ salaries.
